From the publisher
In this special issue of Photofile, we explore still life from multiple angles and through a panoply of perspectives, from young Adelaide.
Artist James Tylor’s use of the nineteenth- century Ambrotype technique to re-encounter the ancient artefacts of his Aboriginal and Maori cultures, to the taxonomic gaze of Alice Couttoupes, who masks her photographic subjects with botanical specimens wrought from porcelain, thereby erasing portraiture – quite literally – with still life.
