From the publisher

This book, based on the TV series of the same name, explores how brave owners work with imaginative architects and inventive builders to keep the dream of living in a ‘sandcastle’ alive, creating remarkable coastal homes inspired by the ocean.

Sandcastles uncovers the magic of great architecture, which is often difficult to capture in words. It’s the coming together of the adventurer and the dreamer, who spur each other on to do things beyond the norm. All the houses featured sit on that most powerful edge — between land and sea. Where the forces of nature are so extreme that every decision taken has to be carefully considered, with Mother Nature kept firmly in mind.

ABOUT PETER

Peter Colquhoun is an architect who grew up on the beach in Bondi, where he still lives with his growing family. Sandcastles combines Peter’s two great passions: architecture and the beach. He is responsible for the show’s original concept and carefully selects the houses that feature both here and in the television series. His unique knowledge and love of the beach and architecture deliver a rare insight into homes voted among the best in the world.
