Tailored Torpedo
Ferrari has a long history of making sexy machines that no one can afford, and their latest is the one-off SP-8, ordered by a cashed up customer from Taiwan. The name comes from part of Ferrari’s Special Projects programme -with the ‘8’ being lucky in Chinese culture. As the first order of business, it lost the folding retractable hard-top, which meant the entire body had to be redesigned, and get some serious time in the wind tunnel. Here its aerodynamics were tested through simulations to ensure stability at high speeds - for the vehicle and any hair pieces. Not just a roofless F8 though, this one-and-done gets a redesigned front end with fresh slim headlights, tail lights ala the Ferrari Roma, andfive spoke alloys in tribute to rims worn by…
Middleweight Mayhem
After many years stuck in the mid, the middleweight sport bike category has awoken, and Triumph will be there to ride the wave with its new Daytona 660. With just a quick look at the spec sheet - its rivals should be concerned.
Sticking with the Trident 81 horsepower triple engine would be sufficient for most, but Triumph has chosen violence instead - creating a 94 horsepower version of that powertrain. There's also a new triple throttle body, cylinder head and crankshaft which help push up the redline and gather more torque - 2,000 rpm higher than before at 8,250 rpm.
Triumph Australia has confirmed a LAMS version on the way, boasting 41.9 kW performance without dropping much torque - impressive figures for a lesser version.
Helping unleash the iconic triple roar is…
Moon Buggy
To celebrate their 50th, Toyota's U.S. design studio Calty (California/ Toyota) decided to gift the automotive world their Toyota Baby Lunar Cruiser (BLC) concept. Known for their out-there designs like the Tacoma and the RA28 Celica, they decided to push the envelope a little further this time – beyond Earth. Conceptualised as your classic SUV but with interplanetary exploration capabilities, the BLC draws heavy influence from the Lunar Cruiser currently being developed for the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
Despite the alien appearance there are also influences from the original FJ40 Land Cruiser, sharing the same front grille design, boxy body, and unmissable 'Toyota' heritage lettering. The biggest difference is that the concept has a handy split tailgate and an expansive glass canopy that extends to the front, giving the driver…
Sea Stallion
Overseen by major players the Ferretti Group, the Italian yacht yard Pershing is finally ready to launch the second model in its GTX range. As with their showpiece GTX116 that debuted last year, the new GTX80 was berthed to deliver the finest in performance and livability. Thanks to Ferretti, Pershing, and also Vallicelli Design, this 24 metre newbie manages to incorporate the latest advanced marine tech together with Italian craftsmanship, and that Pershing signature style.
With two rear decks and a sport bridge, the GTX80 wide spread layout ensures all guests can't escape that connection to the sea. The main deck extends below the walkways to ensure water views from the plush sofas, while the galley bar connects the indoor lounge to the outdoor cockpit.
Able to sleep up to eight guests,…
Make it RAINE!
H ello, Paris. Amazing photo shoot. Tell us a bit about it.
This was a spontaneous and very last-minute photo shoot – it’s how I roll – and I was blown away with the results! Neil [Dixon] is such a talented photographer; I love his work and I’m always super impressed by every shoot we do together.
Give the readers a little more background about yourself.
Paris Raine, who is she? Haha! I ask myself the same question every day. As far as I am aware, I’m a spiritual being, living in a temporary physical body and have been enjoying all of the world’s marvellous creations whilst learning extraordinary life lessons along the way. Currently, I create lots of things, from pulling together and featuring in an array of brand campaigns both nationally…
KLINKO FRAMING
Celebrity photographer Markus Klinko has been lensing some of the most enduring imagery across music, pop culture and fashion for over three decades. The Swiss-born snapper’s distinct style first entered the zeitgeist in the early 2000s after he was “forced” by record labels to ditch fashion magazines and start shooting album sleeves during the golden age of CDs. As one of the music industry’s go-to guys for instantly iconic album covers, Klinko is the genius behind the cover of Beyonce’s Dangerously In Love, Mariah Carey’s The Emancipation of Mimi and the Black Eyed Peas’ Elephunk, to name just a few.
Like many auteurs, Klinko has a remarkable ability to not only capture but define emerging icons, from a young Britney Spears to an ascendant Lady Gaga. Here, the photographer chats with…
The Voice YOU’RE TRY AND UNDERSTAND IT
“I still don’t like that song. “I just couldn’t hear myself singing it; it just didn’t appeal to me.”
John Farnham luckily avoided recording what became one of the worst songs in rock history while working on his mega-selling comeback album Whispering Jack. Not a noted songwriter himself, he needed outside help to find tunes for the album and that job fell largely to his manager Glenn Wheatley, who had to work hard to get people to hand over their tunes. Farnham wasn’t a big name in the mid-1980s so there were a lot of famous singers in line ahead of him, and songwriters want their tunes to go to famous singers because there’s more of a chance of earning big royalties.
Still, Wheatley did what he could, and it seems he…
GOING Green
Give us a little more background about yourself, Tara.
I grew up in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and busted my buns to graduate high school early and seek independence. After I graduated, travelling was the first endeavour on my list, so I packed my bag and backpacked South East Asia for 13 weeks. I couldn’t get enough of Asia so I went back where I lived the simple life on Koh Phi Phi Island! I now teach Pilates – I took my instructor course through Barre Body Australia – and love anything Australian. I also love to learn and will be taking my paralegal degree once I touch down in Australia soon!
How do you feel about your photo shoot?
I feel that my photo shoot was a reminder to myself…
LEG DAY
There are two types of people who think single leg training is for pussies — those who don’t do it and those who suck at it… most likely because they don’t do it. Single leg work is an effective way to build lower body strength and size whilst working around injuries. It can help bulletproof the body, stabilising the hip and knee joints, and addressing any structural imbalances. And if the word “functional” is going to continue to be thrown around, single leg training fits in every sense of the word given that our entire existence pretty much requires that we move one leg at a time. Now, while I totally get that single leg training might not stroke the ego of all you hard-gainers out there, effectively having to…
