STILL CHASING RAINBOWS
Walking into Dame Zandra Rhodes’s eclectic London home is like stepping into a kaleidoscope. Her “rainbow penthouse”, which sits atop the Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey, is a riot of colour, art, clothes and sculpture, and has been likened by visitors to being inside the famous designer’s head.
Bright pink walls are filled with quirky works of art, shelves painted vivid shades of pink, turquoise and purple are crammed with books, framed photos and painted teapots, and bold patterned rugs partially cover a rainbow-tiled floor.
A mannequin by Adel Rootstein, a leading mannequin designer of the Fifties and Sixties, stands in the living-dining room, wearing a pink wig and a pleated cape shirt that Zandra made for Freddie Mercury. A Biba bust on a hand-painted plinth takes pride of…

JANE FALLON
Author undergoes surgery for breast cancer
The author Jane Fallon has revealed that she has had surgery following a diagnosis of breast cancer. Jane, whose long-term partner is the comedian Ricky Gervais, wrote on Instagram: “‘I had my op this morning. I’m feeling remarkably fine (which is possibly the drugs).”
She said that she was recovering and had celebrated with a cup of tea and a book by fellow author Catherine Steadman.
Describing her experience with good humour, Jane, 65, added: “I’m held together with superglue and dissolving stitches.

THE INSIDE STORY
CATE SETS NEW STANDARDS ON STAGE
Cate Blanchett was elegant in an asymmetric strapless dress as she accepted the Lebedev Award at the London Standard Theatre Awards. The Academy Award-winning actress was commended for “breathing life back into” Anton Chekhov’s play The Seagull, in which she starred at the Barbican last year.
Her performance was hailed by the judges as “truly spectacular” and one that “shone a brilliant light on the London stage”.
The ceremony – held at the home of Evgeny Lebedev, the owner of The Standard, in Hampton Court – also attracted stars including Rachel Zegler and Hayley Atwell.
Guests enjoyed a sit-down dinner before being treated to a performance by the Devon-born singer Ava Joe.

ROCK LEGEND RENEWS VOWS
As the legendary rock star Alice Cooper renewed his vows with his wife, Sheryl, on their 50th wedding anniversary, surrounded by friends and four generations of family in a heatwave in Phoenix, he looked into his bride’s eyes and declared: “Our 50 years together has proved to a cynical world that true love lasts and is very much alive.”
How true that is, for theirs is renowned as the strongest – and longest – marriage in rock’n’roll.
HELLO! was exclusively invited to share their incredible day as 220 guests from music, showbusiness and the couple’s local church witnessed Alice, 78, and dancer Sheryl, 69, say “I do” – again – at the historic Wrigley Mansion in Phoenix, the city in Arizona where the family live.

‘I’M REALLY LIVING LIFE TO THE FULL NOW’
It is a bitterly cold day at Cliveden House. Sadie Frost, the model and actress turned film director and now handbag designer, is fresh from yoga training in India and is acclimatising with a cup of breakfast tea (Yorkshire, her favourite) as her miniature dachshund, Cherry, lies like a hot-water bottle on her lap.
The historic Berkshire hotel has hosted every reigning British monarch since George I, and Sadie celebrated her 60th birthday here with 15 of her closest girlfriends last year. “We had a beautiful dinner and then went on a private boat along the river,” she says, relaxing on a velvet sofa.
“I love this hotel,” she adds, recalling her first visit about 30 years ago with Gary Kemp, the lead guitarist of Spandau Ballet and the father…
EMBATTLED PRINCESS
It’s nearly two years since Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie stepped out to support the Prince of Wales at a garden party at Buckingham Palace. The heir to the throne had drafted in his younger cousins, along with Zara and Mike Tindall, to the society event in May 2024 as his wife, the Princess, and his father, the King, both underwent treatment for cancer.
But now, with the Princesses’ mother, Sarah Ferguson, in hiding and their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, exiled to Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate, life looks very different for the sisters once earmarked by some royal-watchers as potential stars of the future.
INVITATION TO ROYAL ASCOT
To the outside world, they appear to have been cast adrift from the rest of the royals as the fallout from the…
HISTORIC FIRST FOR CHURCH
The Prince and Princess of Wales witnessed a moment of history as they watched the enthronement of Dame Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury last week.
Not only were the couple watching as a woman became ceremonial head of the Church of England for the first time, but it must also have crossed their minds that, as Archbishop, she may one day place the crown upon William’s head at his coronation.
The enthronement, traditionally attended by the heir to the throne rather than the monarch, also marked a public display of William’s devotion to the Church, of which he will one day be Supreme Governor.
His presence at the historic event came after suggestions from those close to the Prince that he possessed a “quiet faith”.
Although he does not…
ROYAL MANOEUVRES
Dressed in military fatigues and a regimental beret, the Prince of Wales looked more than ready for action as he joined soldiers at their barracks in Wiltshire last week.
But although his beard added to his rugged look, he jokingly mused that he might shave it off and replace it with a more trendy moustache.
Prince William, who is colonel-in-chief of The Mercian Regiment, was visiting the 1st Battalion at Picton Barracks in Bulford, near Salisbury, to hear about its recent six-month deployment to Estonia to work alongside Nato land forces.
Admiring the men’s moustaches, which they grew while serving in the Baltic country, William stroked his beard and said: “I might end up taking mine off and leaving a ’tache.”
The Prince has been sporting his beard since 2024…
GREAT BRITISH CAKE-OFF
Wielding a ceremonial sword, the King and Queen got the giggles as they attempted to cut a cake during a day of engagements in Cornwall.
Charles and Camilla tussled playfully over the sword as they helped to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Eden Project.
Having failed to notice that a knife had been left out for them, the couple were handed the ceremonial weapon by the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Colonel Sir Edward Bolitho.
But it got caught in some bunting as they tried to saw through the elaborate cake, which was modelled on a row of terraced houses, an allotment and a street party.
“Have we cut a house?” Camilla asked, as she encouraged her husband to look at the cake’s intricate details, created by a local baker,…
THE ROYAL BRIEF
THE DUCHESS OF EDINBURGH AND LADY HELEN TAYLOR
Chimpanzees had their moment in the spotlight as the Jane Goodall Institute UK hosted the Reasons for Hope Gala, attended by the Duchess of Edinburgh and Lady Helen Taylor. The event at The Peninsula London hotel celebrated the legacy of the late conservationist and raised money for the organisation’s conservation projects, which have included chimpanzee rescues in Africa and pollinator gardens in British cities.
KING PHILIPPE AND QUEEN MATHILDE OF BELGIUM
The Norwegian royal family welcomed King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium to Oslo for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening industrial ties between the nations. King Harald V and Queen Sonja (on the left, with Crown Prince Haakon, right) hosted the couple, whose visit included a state banquet at…
