TIME TO SHINE
THE CROWD WATCHED, RAPT, AS FASHION ICONS CATE BLANCHETT AND SARAH BURTON APPEARED TOGETHER ON STAGE It’s the night that showcases the best of British style, with A-list stars from all over the world flying into London to make an appearance. Feted as the UK’s answer to the Met Gala, the Fashion Awards were as fabulous as ever, with elegant celebrities dressing in the finest of couture to step out on the special navy carpet at the Royal Albert Hall last week.
Kylie Minogue sparkled in a white layered dress with a handkerchief hem by Jonathan Anderson for Dior, teamed with a necklace from A Sinner in Pearls, while the supermodel Iman wore a dress by Harris Reed as she presented an award to her friend, the stylist Sam Woolf.…
THE INSIDE STORY
KATE WINS GLOWING PRAISE
Kate Hudson dazzled in a figure-hugging white slip dress at the Gotham Awards in New York last week.
The actress wore a silky gown from Ralph Lauren for the ceremony, where she and her Song Sung Blue co-star Hugh Jackman picked up the inaugural Gotham Musical Tribute for their performances in the film.
Hugh showered her with praise at the glittering event, saying: “Kate Hudson is not only one of the great stars of our business, she is a consummate actor. And there is a very important difference, I can tell you, between Kate Hudson in Almost Famous, which was just three years ago – right, Kate? – and Kate Hudson in Song Sung Blue. The difference is that I believe this time she’s going to…
GLITTERING SUCCESS
The Prince and Princess of Wales were the very definition of regal glamour as they stole the show at a glittering state banquet at Windsor Castle. Kate made a show-stopping entrance as she and Prince William joined the King, the Queen and other members of the royal family for the star-studded event.
The Princess dazzled in a sparkling sequinned floor-length gown by Jenny Packham, featuring an asymmetrical neckline and cape sleeves. She also wore the Royal Family Order, the Sash and Star of the Royal Victorian Order and a pair of diamond drop earrings that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II.
However, her most stunning accessory was Queen Victoria’s rarely seen Oriental Circlet Tiara, last worn by Elizabeth 20 years ago. Commissioned by Prince Albert for his wife in 1853, it…
BELLES OF THE BALL
To watch this slice of high society waltzing in their couture dresses and white tie beneath the crystal chandeliers of a Paris ballroom, it is easy to forget that this is their first foray into a rarefied world.
The guests at this year’s Bal des Débutantes embraced the formality of the evening, but there were moments of vivacity that shone through.
At one point, Carolina Lansing, granddaughter of the fashion designer Carolina Herrera and wearing a dress created by the family brand, removed the large polka-dotted bow from her ball gown and gave it to her brother Magnus to wear instead of his bow tie.
At another, Jillian Chan, the daughter of two leading figures of Hong Kong cinema, posed back to back with her escort Nikolas Manos, their fingers…
A JOYFUL START TO CHRISTMAS
Christmas came early for the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children as Kate hosted her fifth star-studded carol service at Westminster Abbey – billed as a celebration of love.
The Princess, in a forest green Catherine Walker coat with a Troy London black fur stole, worn over a tartan outfit and accessorised with Robinson Pelham’s Tsar Star earrings, made her entrance at the historic London venue for her Together at Christmas service accompanied by her husband, Prince William, and their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, ten, and Prince Louis, seven, who stopped to pin decorations to the twinkling Connection Tree.
Guests had been invited to add their own named loops to a paper chain adorning the tree, symbolising the power of togetherness and the importance of moments…
‘IT WAS NEVER IF, JUST WHEN’
As love stories go, there can be few sweeter or more heartfelt than the one between Lady Eliza Spencer and her fiance, Channing Millerd.
The couple have been together for nine years, but met 15 years ago at a dinner party in South Africa organised by Greg Mallett, now the husband of Eliza’s twin sister, Lady Amelia Spencer.
“The dinner party was quite close to where I lived at the time, and happened during a quieter time in my life,” says Eliza, who was raised in South Africa with Amelia and their older sister Lady Kitty, younger brother Louis, Viscount Althorp, and half-brother Samuel Aitken.
Born to Earl Spencer – the brother of Diana, Princess of Wales – and the former model Victoria Aitken, Eliza moved to South Africa with…
Blown away
With her 40th birthday approaching in January, the Russian-born, New York-based supermodel Irina Shayk is no longer afraid of change.
“Sometimes we don’t like change because it scares us,” she says in an exclusive interview with HELLO!. “But I feel as though we do all need it.”
The model, who has walked for the likes of Givenchy, Bottega Veneta, Chanel and Burberry, has enjoyed a stellar career, but this year marks a “dream come true” for the mother of one as she appears in the Pirelli Calendar for the first time, draped in coral chiffon for an otherworldly shoot.
The striking images, taken by the Norwegian photographer Sølve Sundsbø, were created to represent wind. Other calendar stars include the musician FKA Twigs, the actress Gwendoline Christie and the sportswoman Venus…
NATURE’S SPARKLE
The diamond specialist De Beers is known for its unrivalled access to magnificent gemstones – the kind you’ve seen on the Princess Royal and A-list actresses such as Lupita Nyong’o, Emily Blunt and Scarlett Johansson. So it’s no surprise that one of its most enduring designs, the Enchanted Lotus, has become a cult favourite.
Launched in 2009, the collection is built around the lotus flower, a motif that is deeply symbolic for the house. In Botswana’s Okavango Delta, where the flower thrives, the lotus opens with the morning light and closes again at night, a daily ritual that has made it a symbol of eternity and renewal.
“The lotus has always resonated with us because it embodies renewal and transformation,” says De Beers London’s Design Studio. “That symbolism of renewal…
