THIS WEEK IN…
There’s nothing worse than waking up feeling unwell and wondering how on Earth you’re going to fit a doctor’s appointment into an already packed week. I’m lucky enough to always be able to get an appointment at my local surgery. But between the endless juggle of daily life, even a simple health query can feel like one more thing on the to-do list. That’s why it’s so useful to understand how a pharmacist could potentially help instead – without the need to see a doctor. This week, we spoke to TerryWhite Chemmart Pharmacist Bena, who explained what respiratory syncytial virus is – the horrible infection that causes cold-like symptoms – and how we can protect ourselves against it this winter. Turn to page 49 for all her tips.…
PARKINSON’S CURE PLEA
Dame Julie Andrews had her legions of fans worried that she’d been privately diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, after the 90-year old actress made a rare public appearance to speak about the first-hand impact the incurable illness has had on her life.
In a video message shared to YouTube by the World Parkinson Coalition, which played during the seventh
World Parkinson’s Congress, Julie told attendees that the need to find a cure is greater than ever – and they have her full support.
“Your participation is invaluable as we seek to find a cure to this terrible disease,” Julie shared.
Although she didn’t go into further specifics, the Mary Poppins icon added, “I know well how devastating it can be.”
Julie concluded her welcome by saying, “May we all become a…
WEDDING MYSTERY!
MasterChef Australia couple Sarah Todd and Declan Cleary have sparked talk that they’ve wed in secret, with Declan recently spotted wearing a silver band on his ring finger – more than once!
Sarah, 38, and Declan, 27, welcomed twins Charlotte and Claudia on Christmas Eve. Then, on January 6, Declan sent fans into a spin when he referred to Sarah as his fiancée on Instagram Stories.
But in a more recent post, Declan captioned a new series of photos “a sweet glimpse at the last little while”. It was in these that he sported the ring.
A source tells New Idea that even if they’re not officially wed, “Declan and Sarah already feel like they’re married.” But our source adds, “It would not be a surprise if they did slip…
MARRIAGE TENSION
With two young children at home, it’s understandable that Riley Keough may harbour concerns about her Australian husband’s career as an in-demand movie stuntman. The actress, 37, married Ben Smith-Petersen in 2015.
“Riley has lost so many loved ones, so she’s terrified about losing Ben too,” an insider spills. In the last few
years Riley’s dealt with the sudden deaths of both her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, and brother Benjamin.
“It’s a source of tension.”
Riley is trying to “de-stress her life”, our source says.…
SHOCK FAMILY UPDATE
After a months-long social media hiatus, Rebecca Gibney returned to Instagram last week to tell fans she “hasn’t disappeared – but has had some stuff going on”.
Rebecca, 61, shared that her mum, Shirley, “is in hospital and has been dealing with a few issues but is doing well.” The star is exceptionally close to ‘Mama Shirl’, who turned 91 in March.
She added, “Anyone that follows me knows and loves Mum so thought I should share that – please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she climbs yet another mountain.”
Rebecca, who was recently diagnosed with ADHD, also explained that her beloved dog, Lolly, had also been unwell, “but the drugs are awesome and she’s well on the road to recovery”.…
SHOCK WEDDING PLANS
Their 10-year marriage ended more than a decade ago, but Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck continue to be Hollywood’s friendliest exes. The pair are frequently seen together, most recently out running errands in LA last week. But New Idea has heard a whisper that their friendliness could soon extend to a new level…
“Ben is the frontrunner to walk Jen down the aisle when she eventually marries her boyfriend John Miller,” our Hollywood insider reveals.
“Her dad William died two years ago, so Jen’s told friends that, come the day, she has three choices when choosing who to escort her to the altar. There’s her mum, her son Samuel – or Ben!”
Ben is admittedly a wildcard choice. But as he and Jen have remained so close since their 2015…
CYRUS FAMILY FEUD ERUPTS
Miley Cyrus is the latest celebrity to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And while her mum Tish, older sister Brandi and fiancé Maxx Morando cheered Miley on at the grand unveiling, her father Billy Ray was noticeably missing.
A source claims Billy Ray allegedly skipped the event because his
Miley publicly sided with her mum when Tish and Billy split in 2022. And while Miley, 33, and Billy Ray, 64, have mended fences lately, “It would’ve been a step too far to have Liz and Tish at the same event,” says our source. New Idea understands Liz, 60, is happy to step back from Cyrus family events if there’s any sensitivity, but Billy Ray really wanted her at this one. “It was supposed
to be an…
MEL BREAKS DATING RULE
When in Rome … why not get romantic with a new squeeze! Mel Gibson followed that idea to the letter when he was spotted canoodling with local actress Antonella Salvucci in the Italian capital. “They could barely keep their hands off one another,” an onlooker told New Idea. “It looked like a date night.”
According to RadarOnline, Mel, 70, has broken his own dating rule by connecting with 44-year-old Antonella.
“He has been joking that he would probably end up with somebody in their thirties because he likes youthful energy and adventure,” a source close to the star told the site. “His friends are teasing him because Antonella is glamorous and younger than him – but not exactly in the age range he talked about.”
Mel was last linked to…
HARD LAUNCHES HIS ROMANCE!
Two years into their relationship, Dr Chris Brown has finally gone social media official with his girlfriend, Lorraine Monforte.
“This is the real deal,” a source close to the pair exclusively tells us. “They’ve built something really solid away from the spotlight”.
New Idea was the first to reveal that Chris, 47, was dating publicist Lorraine in May 2025. We spied them enjoying a low-key holiday together to Norway and Finland. However, they had been keeping their relationship under wraps for almost a whole year before this, as they recently marked their two-year anniversary.
Since that snowy holiday, Chris and Lorraine, a mum of two, have been spotted numerous times in public – including at the Australian Grand Prix in March and in Sydney over the Easter weekend – but…
I’M A CELEBRITY… GETS OUT OF HERE!
After much speculation, Network 10 has confirmed that I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! won’t be returning in 2027 as they “focus on offering our audience a range of content on all platforms”. “We look forward to working with Julia Morris and Robert Irwin on other projects,” they said.
Robert, 22, took over from Dr Chris Brown as co-host alongside Julia in 2024.
Reacting to the news, Robert called his time on the show a “truly life-changing experience”. Julia, 58, said the last 12 years in the jungle has been “the best working experience of my lifetime”.
The cancellation comes as 2016 winner Brendan Fevola confirmed he was approached for a potential All-Stars season. But a TV insider exclusively tells New Idea the plan was canned because there are…
