This Week In… New Idea
There are moments when words feel heartbreakingly small. Last week, our community was left shattered by unimaginable horror and loss with the Bondi terror attack. We also witnessed courage. Ordinary people did extraordinary things – running towards danger, shielding strangers, offering help without hesitation. These acts can’t erase the pain, but they do remind us that even in the darkest moments, humanity shows up. We pay tribute to some of those heroes in this issue, and remember those who lost their lives. Our thoughts are with their loved ones. As Matilda’s father urged the world to do for his precious 10-year-old daughter,
Acting Editorial Director Editor we will remember their names.…
Australia Mourns Heartbreak And The Heroes
Bondi Strong UNITED WE STAND Thousands of Bondi locals have come together in a show of solidarity at vigils held for the victims of the December 14 terror attack.
Outside the Bondi Pavilion, mourners wept and embraced as they gathered around a sea of floral tributes. A menorah was lit by Rabbi Yossi Shuchat to mark the second day of Hanukkah.
“Yesterday was a tragic event, which words cannot explain,” he addressed the crowd. “Lightness will always persevere; darkness cannot continue where there is light.”
Around the country, thousands more gathered to share in their grief in the days following the massacre, united in their resolve not to let this targeted attack break them.
As the dust settles on the unfathomable tragedy, a bystander who valiantly leapt to action and…
Meg & Billy ‘Our Hearts Are Broken’
Hollywood is reeling from the shocking deaths of director Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, 68, who were found stabbed in their Brentwood home on December 14. Their son Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested on the same day and booked on suspicion of their murders. Rob’s close friends Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, who worked with him on the hit 1989 movie When Harry Met Sally, are said to be “shattered by the deaths”, a source tells New Idea.
Billy rushed to the Reiners’ home shortly after the news broke and was seen wiping tears away as he left the police cordon with his wife, Janice.
Billy also collaborated with Rob on The Princess Bride and This Is Spinal Tap. Initially he “refused to believe the news”,…
Chris Confesses ‘We’ve Had Tough Times’
After a year spent denying rumours of possible trouble in paradise, Chris Hemsworth has now confessed that his 15-year marriage to Elsa Pataky isn’t always easy.
“The tough times have been when it’s all work, all kids, and all of a sudden the ‘us’ in the relationship is sort of … non-existent,” Chris, 42, revealed on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast.
But he added during the chat that he and Elsa, 49, work hard on their relationship and the key to its success is “having fun”. He added they try to remove themselves from complications and instead focus on making each other laugh.
“There’s always that attraction too,” he said. “But what it comes down to is friendship in the end.”…
With Ex Guy!
Madonna and her ex-husband Guy Ritchie have made a rare joint public appearance. The former couple have only been seen together a handful of times since their acrimonious divorce was finalised in 2008.
Madonna, 67, and film director Guy, 57, threw a party for their artist son, Rocco, at the London launch of his latest exhibition, Talk Is Cheap. Rocco, 25, said via Instagram he felt “proud to have both of my parents together in one room supporting me”.
Madonna married Guy at Skibo Castle in Scotland, in 2000, but they divorced eight years later.…
Healing With Love
Tennis commentator Jelena Dokic has shared an update on her recovery progress, after she recently revealed she needed to have surgery to remove a large growth from her uterus.
The star shared a selfie with partner Yane Veselinov on Instagram, saying, “First day out and walk since surgery. With my love.”
Jelena, 42, underwent a procedure at Melbourne’s Royal Women’s Hospital to have the non-cancerous fibroid removed. At the time, she shared a post from her hospital bed and stated she wanted to raise awareness about the prevalence of fibroids.
“Please get your scans, regular check-ups and if anything feels off or painful, please go to your doctor,” she also said.
Clearly Jelena’s on the mend now – with Yane by her side. The pair publicly debuted their relationship in…
Renew Wedding Vows!
After recently reuniting with his son Christopher following an almost two-decade estrangement, Pierce Brosnan is clearly feeling the love.
So much so, New Idea can report that the actor, 72, is planning to renew his wedding vows with wife Keely, 62, in honour of their 25th wedding anniversary next August.
“Pierce wants to do this with all his loved ones around, including Chris,” our source says. “Pierce and Keely already had plans for a small family celebration in honour of their anniversary, but now Pierce wants to get their marriage blessed again.”
Our source adds, “He’s still insanely in love with Keely and he takes great pride in how their marriage has stood the test of time.”…
No Jealousy Here!
Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson’s electric chemistry as a married couple in Song Sung Blue is undeniable. But Hugh’s real-life girlfriend, Sutton Foster, seemed unbothered by the pair’s close bond when she partied with Kate, 46, at the film’s New York premiere on December 10.
“Kate and Sutton shared a huge hug at the afterparty and enjoyed a laugh together,” an onlooker told New Idea.
“At one point Sutton even came to the rescue when Kate suffered a wardrobe malfunction and fixed her dress. It was lovely to see.”
Earlier this month, reports emerged on RadarOnline alleging that Sutton, 50, was “wary” of Kate, because of her reputation for being “flirty by nature”. But it seems there was never any need for jealousy because Hugh, 57, and Kate – and…
Nicole demands ‘Tell Me The Truth, Keith!’
Nashville continues to buzz with stories of Keith Urban’s love life following his September split from Nicole Kidman – and his ex-wife is demanding answers … now!
Reports claim the country crooner has been “sowing his wild oats” as a newly single man, with fresh whispers “he’s drawn to a Nicole look-alike”.
“Keith certainly has a type,” a Nashville-based pal tells New Idea. “Most of these young ladies have very similar looks to Nicole, but there’s one who’s caught his eye who is the absolute spit of Nicole when she and Keith first got together.”
While the mystery woman’s name is being kept under wraps, Keith, 58, has been linked to several rising country stars since the divorce news broke, including Kelsea Ballerini, 32. He reportedly bonded with her over…
Harry’s Kids Home At Last!
After an impossibly difficult few months, King Charles finally has good reason to smile again. The path is now clear for his estranged son, the Duke of Sussex, to return home to the UK with his children in tow!
“Charles is trying hard to hide his excitement, but he’s told Prince Harry that he would be welcome any time,” reveals a palace source.
The door was partially reopened in September, when Harry, 41, met with his father at Clarence House for the first time in 20 months. Then, at the beginning of December, Harry finally won a government review of his UK security arrangements.
Earlier in the year, Harry had claimed in a BBC interview that it would be unsafe for him to visit Britain, with his wife, the Duchess…
