Meet the Editor of Golf Australia magazine... Brendan James

We speak to Brendan James Editor of Golf Australia Magazine.

What is Golf Australia? Who is it for and what does it cover?

Golf Australia has the highest readership of any measured golf magazine in this country.* It is for every golfer who ever dreamed of stringing two good shots together, making a putt to beat their mate or walking in the footsteps of the game’s champions on one of the world’s great courses. I’d like to think we’re in the business of selling dreams, whether its travel, a better golf game or that new driver the reader is going to drool over. And, on top of all that, there are our trademark feature stories authored by an award-winning team of writers from here and overseas, all accompanied by stunning photography.

What's the best part about being the editor of Golf Australia?

That’s an easy one. Every day when I go to work I get to immerse myself in golf, which has been a huge part of my life for more than 35 years, with 23 of those being an editor at Golf Australia. Over that time I have been blown away by the loyalty of our readers, and I love the fact I get emails from readers, who were regular correspondents by hand-written letter back in the day. It says to me we have been doing plenty of good things with the magazine over the journey.

What can readers expect from future issues of Golf Australia?

We kicked off 2020 with our biennial ranking of Australia’s Top-100 Courses, which has created plenty of discussion in the golfing community. That chat will certainly continue as we cover the game’s major championships – with correspondents providing exclusive coverage from each event – while we will also reveal the best equipment and courses to play this year. And it’s no good having the tools and the venue if you’re not prepared to play your best, so we have planned some major instruction features with some of the game’s biggest names.

If Golf Australia had a motto what would it be?

“Let’s play.” I’m sure every one of our readers could easily identify with this desire.
